From March 12-14, 2025, the DIGIHUB team, represented by Ina Agafonova and Petko Georgiev, had the opportunity to participate in the International Delegation to Belgian Offshore Days in Ostend, Belgium. Organized by Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) and supported by POM West-Vlaanderen, Blue Cluster, and the Belgian Offshore Cluster, this event provided an exceptional platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation in offshore wind and the blue economy.

The event showcased advancements in offshore energy, sustainable marine solutions, and the increasing role of digital technologies in optimizing operations, predictive maintenance, and energy efficiency. As a European Digital Innovation Hub, DIGIHUB is committed to exploring the intersection of digital transformation and offshore industries and expanding partnerships in this rapidly evolving sector.

The event began with the Belgian Offshore Oscars Reception, where industry leaders, policymakers, and experts gathered to discuss the latest trends in offshore wind and renewable energy. The evening provided excellent networking opportunities and allowed us to connect with key stakeholders shaping the future of offshore technologies.
Industry Insights & Panel Discussions
Day two featured insightful keynotes on offshore wind developments in Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Greece, and Norway. One of the highlights was the presence of Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Iva Petrova, who presented the country’s progress in renewable energy expansion.
- Panel on Offshore and Renewable Energy in Southeast Europe – A discussion on policy, investments, and the adoption of new technologies in the sector.
Exclusive Guided Tour of the Flemish Blue Economy Ecosystem
The delegation had the privilege of visiting some of Flanders’ leading offshore companies and research facilities, including:
- Bekaert, e-BO, Smulders, Parkwind, Otary, GEO XYZ, Deme, Jan De Nul, Sarens, Marlinks, Sentea, and 24Sea, where we gained insights into offshore wind farm construction, marine robotics, and energy storage solutions.
Blue Economy Tour & Cutting-Edge Research
The final day included:
- Ostend Science Park & BlueBridge, showcasing Flanders’ role in marine research and digital transformation in offshore operations.
- Maritime Research Center, featuring The Reef, Coastal & Ocean Basin, and SINTEF, where research is advancing offshore wind technology.
- Marine Robotics Center, where autonomous and AI-driven solutions are transforming offshore inspection and maintenance.
- Princess Elisabeth Island, Belgium’s first energy island and a critical hub for offshore grid connectivity in the North Sea.
Moving Forward – The Role of Digital Innovation in Offshore Energy
The event reinforced that digitalization is a key driver of efficiency and sustainability in offshore industries. Technologies such as AI, IoT, digital twins, and smart grids are reshaping offshore wind energy by reducing costs and improving operational performance. DIGIHUB remains committed to fostering partnerships that bring innovation to the offshore and maritime sectors.
