The Burgas affiliate of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” was opened in 2023 by decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria. The Municipality of Burgas played a key role in the establishment of the branch and continues to provide active support for its development in the seaside city.
Within the last week, Southeast Digital Innovation Hub (DIGIHUB) and Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document was signed by the rector of the university, Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov, and the chairman of DIGIHUB, Petko Georgiev. During their visit to Burgas, the management of the university and the deans of the faculties held a series of meetings and discussions on the development of academic cooperation and the prospects for higher education.
“Within the framework of this partnership, DIGIHUB can share with the affiliate part of its premises for hybrid use and outsourced training and for the purpose of conducting joint activities. Our organization will encourage and support student entrepreneurship by contributing to the creation of university companies and spinoffs.”
Petko Georgiev also said that one of the main tasks of DIGIHUB is to support small and medium enterprises and the public sector in their digital transformation. The opening of a branch of Sofia University in Burgas is an important step in this direction, as it will ensure the availability of trained personnel ready to meet the challenges of digital transformation. The cooperation between DIGIHUB and Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” will certainly be fruitful and will contribute to the development of higher education, research and innovation in the region.
